International NGOs have left the area after heavy fighting erupted between the government army, the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), and the rebels in July 2016, making it a "humanitarian ghost town." قالت صحيفة “العربي الجديد” اليوم الأربعاء، إن نحو ألف سوداني انضموا للقتال في صفوف الجنرال الليبي المتقاعد، خليفة حفتر.
وكشفت مصادر ليبية وسودانية، بحسب الصحيفة، أن عودة عمليات تجنيد المرتزقة بدأت مجدداً من جانب حفتر، حيث شهدت الفترة القليلة الماضية، وتحديداً الشهرين الماضيين، إلحاق نحو ألف مقاتل سوداني بمليشيات شرق ليبيا، بعد اتفاقات جرت أخيراً بين حفتر ومسؤولين عسكريين في السودان، برعاية إماراتية.
